Convert among distance, average speed, and time in hours and minutes, and show minutes per mile from a constant average speed.
How speed, distance, and time convert
Distance equals average speed multiplied by time. Minutes are converted to hours by dividing by 60, then the selected unknown is solved. Pace is the minutes needed for one mile at that average speed.
Speed = distance ÷ time Distance = speed × time Time = distance ÷ speed Pace = 60 ÷ speed (min/mile)
Example
60 miles in 1 hour 30 minutes is 1.5 hours, so average speed is 40 mph and pace is 1.5 minutes per mile. That is the average for the whole trip, not a peak speed.
Why arrival time can differ
The model holds one average speed. It does not add rest stops, traffic, lights, hills, or a mapped route.
Frequently asked questions
Do I enter 30 minutes as 0.3 hours?
No. Put 30 in the minutes field; the calculator converts it to 0.5 hours.
Can average speed be zero?
Distance can be zero when speed is zero. Time cannot be calculated unless speed is greater than zero.
Is pace a running split?
It is only minutes per mile from the average speed. It does not model intervals, heart rate, or course conditions.
